What is

AEROBATIC FLYING

Aerobatic flight is for me one of the purest forms of flying. There is no electronics, flight management systems or complex avionics. Its just you, stick and throttle and endless combinations of loops and rolls to explore the sky. From zero to maximum airspeed, and alot of G-forces! This “Unlimited flight” and total freedom is the reason why I am so fascinated with this sport. Its a thrill ride compared to nothing els. So follow me on my adventure when Im flying aerobatic competitions in the Bellanca Super Decathlon. Its gona be a fun ride!

Aerobatic flying is defined when the aircraft is inclined more than 60 ° in the rolling plane and more than 30 ° in the longitudinal plane. When you are doing aerobatics you can fly the airplane however you like, the only limitation is how much load you and the airplane can take. If you wanna fly aerobatic, you need an airplane specially rated to withstand high G-loads, for at least +6 G and -3 G. 1 G corresponds to the pulling force that the body has when standing on the ground and at +2 G you weigh twice as much. And if you hang upsidedown you have -1G.

Glad you found your way here

INFORMATION ABOUT ME

My name is Kristoffer, I work as a fireman in Stockholm. I have always had a great interest in flying and especially aerobatic flying. In 2019 I bought myself into a Bellanca Super Decathlon. It is a very good aircraft to train in at affordable prices, compared to other more powerful aerobatic planes. I feel that it is good starter plane when learning aerobatics, because you really have to learn to manage the speeds in all maneuvers.

With this plane I can compete up to Sportsman level. If I want to compete higher up in the classes, a better aircraft is required with a more powerful engine. My main goal now is to compete and be as good as I can be. And in the long run if im lucky, compete in the highest class. I always set high goals, and we’ll see how far it takes me.

The plane I fly

BELLANCA SUPER DECATHLON

The plane I am flying at the moment is a Bellanca Super Decathlon from 1978. It is a two-seater airplane where you sit in tandem. It has a 4 cylinder Lycoming engine with 180 hp, with inverted fuel and oiling Systems. It had a big major overhaul on the airframe 2016, and also got a completely new engine 1 years ago. The plane also have new metal wings instead of the old wooden wings. So the old lady is in great chape for its age!
